ABOUT THEATRE



The “Piano” is located at the boarding school for deaf children in the city of Nizhny Novgorod (Ankudinovsky str, 9) and has participated in more than 50 international festivals, 5 world festivals in 15 countries including Russia, Germany, USA, Luxembourg, Finland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Austria, Canada, China.

We are sure the original improvisational performances of the children interacting with the audience will brighten and be a highlight of the event. Also, it will assist in bringing together the interaction of ordinary people and those with fewer opportunities.





Profile of the group:

The “Piano" Theatre began in 1986 at the Nizhny Novgorod boarding school for deaf children.

Theatre actors cannot hear music and applause. But their musicality, expressiveness, and onstage articulation resonate throughout society.

Between the spectators and actors emerges a unified area of co-participation, co-creation, co-experience: this is the marvelous effect of "Piano" that strives to repeat it again and again.

The main creative method is an improvisation within a scenic space, intuitive search and utilizes a particular art form of topical themes and images. Improvisation is a creative method of learning and performing, a method of correctional pedagogy.

Also this is a way of doing a live dialogue with the audience many of whom are not even aware that these boys and girls on stage do not hear.



About performances:

The actors are mimes that create miniatures of a variety of characters.

Each story possesses a distinct idea of special importance to the topic, so these portrayals can vary from lyrical poetry to farce.

There are funny and sad miniatures of Columbine, Pierrot, Harlequin, violinist and violin, cook and chicken, old men and women, as well as trees, sea, wind, rain, and other characters, on behalf of which the actors can treat the eternal themes with proper awe and inescapable irony.




Purpose:

The main purpose of the Piano Theatre is creative and social rehabilitation of hearing impaired children by means of theatre art. Research and development laboratories, that create innovative educational programmes, are working at the Piano Theatre to help teachers of the Nizhny Novgorod boarding school for deaf children. The theatre uses and improves forms of studying based on games. The Piano Theatre methodologies can be used while working with other categories of disabled people both children and adults. The theatre holds workshops on the programme of creative thinking development including joint events for deaf and hearing people. The Piano Theatre gives charitable performances in children’s hospitals, children’s homes and schools thereby developing the idea of tolerant society. Young actors present their spectators with joy and discover boundless abilities of human communication.
